Stephen Walker becomes the first dean of Educational Services at Sacramento State College in fall of 1951. Summer Session and teacher credentialing added.

Approximately 100 courses are offered per year at a shared space with Sacramento Junior College (now known as Sacramento City College).

Off-campus classroom procedures initiated, including instructions to turn off lights and lock doors and windows after evening and weekend classes. Instructors are given keys to their classrooms.

Much of Sac State’s future campus is pear orchards and hop fields when construction begins.

The “Extension Division” of Educational Services is created, offering non-credit courses, conferences and workshops.

Sacramento State College moves to its new campus on Feb. 9, with a parade through town called “GO EAST WITH WEST,” in reference to President Guy West.

Harold Roberts becomes the second dean of Educational Services.

“The Master Plan” unites the University of California, the California State University, and the California Community Colleges system while differentiating the missions of each.

Hubert McCormick becomes the third dean of Educational Services.

Apollo 11 was the spaceflight which landed the first humans, Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, Jr., on Earth's Moon on July 20, 1969.

Launched from the Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39 in Merritt Island, Florida on July 16, Apollo 11 was the fifth manned mission, and the third lunar mission, of NASA's Apollo program.

Educational Services is renamed Continuing Education.

Raymond Endres becomes the fourth dean of Continuing Education.

Spanish language travel study programs begin, initiated with federal grant funding from the National Defense Education Act (NDEA). Still running today as the Master of Arts in Spanish Summer program.

Robert Arellanas, Coordinator of Ethnic Studies, becomes the next dean of Continuing Education.

Continuing Education is renamed to the Office of Extended Learning Programs (ELP).

President Donald Gerth re-designates the Office of Extended Learning Programs (ELP) as the Office of Regional and Continuing Education (RCE).

On August 6, 1991, Tim Berners-Lee posted a short summary of the World Wide Web project on The CERN Website, marking the debut of the Web as a publicly available service on the Internet.

"The WWW project was started to allow high energy physicists to share data, news and documentation. We are very interested in spreading the web to other areas... Collaborators welcome!" —from Berners-Lee's first message.

RCE moves to Adams Building at 7750 College Town Drive in November. RCE includes two classrooms/computer labs. There are 40 staff members and 8 student assistants.

Teacher Training Initiative Program sponsored by the Binational Fulbright Commission, bringing 26 Egyptian ESL teachers to RCE, with $218,962 in funding.

Sacramento State closes its campus for September 11, 2001.

RCE is renamed the College of Continuing Education (CCE) by President Donald Gerth on February 15.

CCE moves into Napa Hall on December 14. There are 67 full-time staff, 25 part-time staff and 9 student assistants. 8 classrooms, 3 computer labs and 4 conference rooms within 34,000 sf.

When the State Training Center closes its doors, CCE presents a training & development showcase entitled “A Partnership between Sacramento State and California’s Workforce.”

The online Caltrans Project Management Certificate Program is recognized by PMI (Project Management Institute) as Product of the Year and CCE as Provider of the Year.

4,970 students enroll in Summer Session 2011 through CCE in 185 self-support courses.

Dr. Guido Krickx appointed Dean of CCE on November 1, 2011.

Campus Community Appreciation Day

On Tuesday, January 17, 2012 we gave back to the Sacramento State campus community by offering events specifically for staff, faculty, administrators, lecturers, guest speakers and instructors.

The Professional Development Workshop featured Jim Pelley, whose humorous presentations are packed with tools and skills for a more fun, more productive work place. As a former stand-up comedian and contributing writer for the original Saturday Night Live Show, Jim combines humor with the latest communication theory and physiological research to show people how to become more creative, more productive, and less stressed.

Later that evening, participants were invited to meet the new Dean, Dr. Guido Krickx. During this meet & greet, raffle prizes were given away and dessert was served.

Training and Development Forum

On Wednesday, January 18, 2012 training partners from the public and private sectors came to network and share resources at the Training and Development Forum.

Keynote speaker William Draves, President of Learning Resources Network (LERN) discussed current topics in today’s training industry. He also led a world café workshop where individuals could discuss their needs, resources and best practices.

On Thursday, January 19, 2012, the International Programs unit hosted a free celebration of our commitment to international education in the Alumni Center. The event featured cultural performances and booths from students and instructors of the English Language Institute, as well as an international buffet lunch.

Allied Healthcare Fair

On Thursday, January 19, 2012, CCE showcased its new and growing programs in the allied healthcare field. Offerings to the public included free CPR training, a BloodSource blood drive, blood pressure screening and exciting tours of our new ambulance.

Staff Appreciation

On Friday, January 20, 2012, the final day of our 60th anniversary celebration week, CCE staff took part in internal teambuilding activities while learning about CCE’s history over the past six decades. The culmination of the week’s activities reinvigorated pride within CCE as we looked back at our past and planned for the future. The event included decade-themed activities and rooms, as well as a few surprises.

CCE has been offering courses, seminars and workshops since 1951. Although times have changed since our founding, we remain committed to serving the community through higher education.

We are so proud of how CCE has grown over the years. Join us as we honor those responsible: amazing staff and faculty, campus and industry partners, students and alumni. We thank them all for making CCE the organization it is today…and continues to become.

In January 2012, we celebrated our 60th anniversary with a week of special events in and around Napa Hall. The events provided an opportunity to reconnect with partners and constituents in an ongoing effort to strengthen relationships and connections to Sacramento State.
