Crime and Intelligence Analysis Certificate Program

Why take this program?
Insidious and ever present, the criminal element of our society continually becomes more sophisticated. New technology enhances law-breaking abilities, allowing for more specialized and complex crimes. Arm yourself with the necessary strategies for solving modern crime problems by participating in the Crime and Intelligence Analysis certificate program.

As a crime or intelligence analyst, you are daily challenged with a multitude of situations. In this program, you will focus on skill development in collecting and analyzing crime data for the forecasting of future crime occurrences; developing target criminal profiles; documenting illicit relationships between people, organizations and events; and using statistical techniques to solve crime problems. You will receive practical instruction in crime analysis, criminal investigative analysis, organized crime and intelligence analysis, and law enforcement research and statistical methods.

In this program, you will perform tasks associated with crime and intelligence analysis work. You will analyze crimes most frequently handled by field investigative officers including murder, rape, robbery, burglary and theft. Crimes of interest to intelligence officers will also be analyzed including "victimless" crimes, organized crime activities, smuggling, child pornography rings, and money-laundering schemes. Crime and Intelligence Analysis also demonstrates identifying and correctly defining crime problems and using crime analysis and intelligence information to create directed patrol or tactical action plans leading to an effective police response.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will receive a Certificate in Crime and Intelligence Analysis from Sacramento State. The certificate allows graduates to apply for the California Department of Justice credential, which designates them as a Certified Crime and Intelligence Analyst for the State of California.
