Teacher Librarian Services Credential

**Please note: This program is currently on indefinite hiatus.** Overview
In California, seven out of eight schools do not have professional library staffing for half a day or more. And while the national ratio of teacher librarians to students is 1:889, California’s ratio is 1:5,965 (2004 - 2005 CBEDS Report and Digest of Education Statistics and Tables and Figures, National Center for Education Statistics). Teacher librarians are in demand in many areas state wide! Recent studies demonstrate that a school library program with a full-time teacher librarian, support staff and a strong computer network leads to higher student achievement regardless of the community's social and economic factors. The Teacher Librarian Services Credential is a special credential that allows you to be a teacher librarian in any K-12 school in California. You must have either a multiple or single subject credential to pursue a library credential, but the library credential is valid in grades K-12 regardless of the level of your teaching credential.
