July 14 - 18, 2014 Workshops
Advanced Placement Program* Summer Institute workshops provide an opportunity for teachers to enhance their AP* curriculum, understand the AP* exam structures and develop strategies for teaching both content and analytical skills.
The Pre-AP* Program is based on the belief that all students can perform at rigorous academic levels and be prepared to engage in a higher level of learning. Ideally, schools or school districts will send teams of teachers from grade levels 6 - 12.
Fees include workshop, course materials, breakfast (M-F), lunch (M-TH) and parking for the week.
$745 per person for early registrations received by June 2, 2014. Registrations received after June 2 will be $790 per person. For AP* Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics and Studio Art, a $50 lab fee also applies.
Each AP* workshop is approved for two semester units of academic credit. The unit fee is an additional $130 and is payable at the first class meeting.
Funding and Employer Paid Fees
The College Board* provides funds to individual teachers under its AP* Fellows Program. The deadline to apply to the College Board* AP* Fellows Program is March 1, 2014. Please visit the College Board's* AP* Fellows Program to submit your application online. If your employer is paying your fees, please complete and submit a Registration Agreement form.
This completed form must be returned to our office in order to complete your enrollment. Do not assume your school will submit the form to us. Please make sure the form is sent to the College of Continuing Education to secure your space in the workshop.
If you are paying your own fees, please register by calling (916) 278-4433 option 2. If your employer is paying your fees, please complete and submit a Registration Agreement form. Please be sure the completed registration form reaches our office to ensure your enrollment in the institute.
A Sacramento State map, driving directions and parking permit will be e-mailed to you two weeks prior to the start of the institute. Please provide an e-mail address that you will have access to in July. The information packet will be sent to this e-mail address in early July.
A full refund less a $25 processing fee will be issued for cancellations received in writing by June 9, 2014.
The College of Continuing Education would like to ensure that all participants enjoy their learning experience. Please call Lori May at (916) 278-4804 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org by June 9, 2014 to alert us of any restrictions or special needs.
Attendance at all sessions is mandatory to earn a certificate of completion and credit (where applicable). The session length of 30 hours is mandated by The College Board.*
Clothing and Climate
Please dress comfortably and casually for all workshops. Sacramento daytime highs can be in the upper 90's in July, with cooler temperatures in the evenings. Air-conditioned classrooms may be chilly so a sweater is recommended.
All AP* and Pre-AP* workshops will be held on the Sacramento State campus.
Breakfast provisions will be available each day and lunch will be available Monday through Thursday. Both are included in your registration fee. Participants are responsible for their own dinner arrangements. There are a variety of restaurants surrounding the Sacramento State campus offering a wide range of menus and prices.
Special arrangements have been made with the Larkspur Landing Hotel located about one mile from campus. For room reservations, please contact the hotel at 916-646-1212 and mention the AP* program. You must reserve by June 13, 2014 as only a limited number of rooms are available. Rates range from $95 per night for a studio suite to $149 per night for a double suite. If you prefer a different location, there are a variety of hotel options available near the campus and throughout the Sacramento area.
For those interested in staying on campus, there are a limited number of dorm rooms available. View the PDF application for dorm rates and options. A completed housing application must be submitted to the Housing and Residential Life Office. See application for more information.
Workshop Cancellation Policy
The College of Continuing Education makes every effort to maintain the published class schedule. If a class is cancelled, participants will be able to enroll in another class or receive a full refund.
Please contact Lori May at (916) 278-4804 or email@example.com.
