Analytical Skills Certificate Program

Why take this program?
Putting your "thinking cap" on at work is natural for you, in fact, you rarely take it off. Analyzing a situation, identifying a plan and following through are a welcomed challenge. You understand the importance of strategic communication, teamwork and planning when working toward a goal. It's important to you to build professional skills to further develop analytical abilities. Learn how to best manage all aspects of analytical work in the Analytical Skills certificate program.

Whether you are a new or an experienced analyst, the Analytical Skills certificate program is designed to enable you to develop the critical core abilities essential to success. The program provides indispensable analytical skills through focusing on the central components of current practices and trends and by providing skill-building tools and job mastery exercises. Learn how to manage all aspects of completing analytical work assignments using effective strategies and approved work formats in order to meet organizational missions, management visions, and customer expectations.

In the Analytical Skills certificate program, you will learn to apply effective critical thinking skills; understand the dynamics of organizational communication and workflow; use effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; understand data gathering formats and logical analysis; write analytical reports; prepare and deliver presentations; implement logical decision making processes; and use project and time management tools.

The Analytical Skills Certificate Program was designed in cooperation with representatives from state, county and city government agencies who have identified a need for education and continued training in the analytical field.

Is this the right program right for you?
These courses are ideal for anyone currently employed as an analyst or any individual interested in pursuing public sector analyst positions. They are designed for entry-level analysts, lateral transfers or individuals who lack formal training in analysis or critical thinking. They also provide an excellent refresher opportunity for experienced analysts.

Program Structure
This program consists of six courses for a total of 92 classroom hours and 9.2 continuing education units (CEUs). The program structure enables participants to apply course concepts and skills in their work setting before moving on to the next competency set. Course times are scheduled to accommodate the needs of working adults.

The program is structured to take the courses in the following sequential order:

  • Overview of Analytical Skills
  • Critical Thinking Skills
  • Effective Project Management for the Analyst
  • Research Methods, Collecting Data and Using Statistics
  • Writing Skills for Analysts
  • Presenting Analytical Reports

Sacramento State Alumni Association
