Overview How would you like the chance to call a Kings/Lakers game? Or provide play-by-play during a River Cats baseball game live from Raley Field? Or maybe your dream is to sit behind a television anchor desk and deliver a sportscast. All of this can be realized during a one-of-a-kind, hands-on introductory experience into the world of sports broadcasting for both television and radio. This program introduces and enhances skills for employment and advancement in sports broadcasting. The program covers the three major areas of sports broadcasting: radio play-by-play, television anchoring, and reporting. Courses are taught by industry veterans using a combination of classroom lecture, hands-on activities, and local amateur and professional sporting events. Participants will exit the program with material presentable to prospective employers.The program is offered as individual courses ("Play-by-Play" and "Anchoring and Reporting") and as an all-inclusive course ("Sports Broadcasting Training Camp"). Audience The target audience falls into three groups: 1) local college, junior college and select high school students interested in entering the field of broadcasting; 2) area professionals interested in promote-ability and/or a career move and; 3) sports enthusiasts (particularly retirees) interested in personal enrichment. Program Structure Class meetings include lecture/open forum led by the instructor or guest speakers and class labs and projects. Each course also includes one or more field trips. (Transportation and access to all field trip venues are included in the course fee.) Past trips have included: - Raley Field to call a live River Cats game
- Fox40 studio to see the inner-workings of a news broadcast and participate in a mock broadcast behind the anchor desk.
