InstructorsAkua Duku Anokye, PhD, is Associate Professor of Africana Language, Literature and Culture at Arizona State University. Dr. Anokye is the Director of First Year Composition program at ASU’s West campus. Among her publications are essays “Oral Connections to Literacy” in Journal of Basic Writing; “Private Thoughts, Public Voices: Letters from Zora Neale Hurston” in Women: A Cultural Review; and a book, Get it Together: Readings in African American Life, Longman Publishers. Dr. Anokye is currently chair of CCCC. She has served in a variety of capacities with ETS and the College Board including as table leader for both the SAT II and AP* English Language and Composition exams and has recently been appointed to College Board’s AP* English Language and Composition Test Development committee. Karen Arnold has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of human resources in the public and private sectors. She designed and led an organization development and training department, and is an expert in employee relations, staffing and recruitment, compliance, compensation and benefits, and workers compensation. Norma E. Arroyo, MA, teaches at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, Colorado. She is an endorsed AP* Consultant, an AP* Spanish reader, and has taught AP* Spanish classes for 11 years. Ms. Arroyo has been a high school Spanish teacher and a Methods instructor for seventeen years. The College Board awarded Ms. Arroyo a scholarship to attend the College Board Equity Colloquium in Houston, TX and the AP* National Conference in Los Angeles. She has presented “Pre-AP* Strategies” at the AATSP Conference in San Diego in 2007, and most recently, “Teaching the 5 C’s” at the RMLA in Calgary, Canada in the Fall 2007. Ms. Arroyo has been the recipient of the AATSP Excellence in Teaching Award of the Colorado Chapter in 2007, Excellence in Teaching Award of the University of Northern Colorado in 2006 and was named 2006 Fort Collins, February Rotary Teacher of the Month. Currently, she is President-Elect of the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers. Christopher Baldwin, MA, has been a classroom teacher for thirty years in the San Diego Unified School District. During that time, he has had experience teaching AP* English, AP* U.S. History, and AP* U.S. Government. He taught at the University of California, San Diego and has been a part of weeklong programs in both AP* English Language and Literature at the University of San Diego; Point Loma Nazarene University; University of California, Riverside; Sacramento State University; and Stanford University. Christophe Barquissau, MA, MS, was born and raised in Paris, France. He earned his first American master's degree from the University of Arizona in French literature and a second one in pedagogy (SLAT). He is currently teaching AP* French Language and Literature for a college preparatory school for gifted students at University High School in Tucson, AZ. Mr. Barquissau has been teaching French since 1994 both for high school and university level. He was appointed as a reader and consultant for the College Board in 1996, and has conducted one and five day curriculum all over the nation. Michael Basham, MA, is the Science Department co-chair at El Dorado High School and has been teaching Biology and AP* Biology for the past 21 years. He has been a College Board consultant for the last 15 years, and has served as an exam reader and table leader. He is a past member of the AP* Biology Test Development Committee. Sigma Xi recognized him as an Outstanding Science Teacher in the greater Sacramento area, and he has also been awarded the Access Excellence Fellow, NABT Outstanding Biology Teacher, and has been a Siemens award winner. MaryAnne Bobrow, C.A.E., C.M.P., is the owner of an association and event management company. She teaches “Using 21st Century Technology to Plan Meetings and Events and Trade Shows and Exhibits” for the Sacramento State College of Continuing Education’s Meeting Planning Certificate Program and “Association Management and Trade Show Operations” in University of Nevada Las Vegas’ Distance Learning Degree Program. Barbra Brooks-Barker, MA, has been a table leader and reader of AP* English Literature exams for 18 years and is one of the authors for The Vertical Teams Guide for English. She has served as a pre-AP* coordinator for the Elk Grove School District and has been teaching for 26 years. Sherrie Carinci, MBA, Ed.D., is a scholar/researcher in the field of gender and multicultural patterns in the area of education, business and society. She is an associate professor for the college of education and graduate coordinator for the Master of Arts Education, Gender Equity Studies emphasis at Sacramento State. Wendy Chason has a master’s in library science and has served as a library media specialist for 28 years in New York and California. She currently works in the libraries at Patwin Elementary School and Holmes Junior High School in Davis. Ben Cornelius, MA, is currently a professor of mathematics at Oregon Institute of Technology. He has taught high school mathematics in Sao Paulo, Brazil and San Diego, CA before coming to OIT in 1980. In 1991-1992 he also spent a sabbatical year teaching math at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore. Ben has been a reader for five years and a table leader for eight years with AP* Calculus. He has presented over 20 Saturday workshops on AP* Calculus in California, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Arizona, Alaska, Maine and the annual AP*Conference, as well as weeklong Summer Institutes at Southern Oregon University, Montana State-Billings, Sacramento State, Las Vegas-NV, Honolulu-HI, Vancouver and Bellevue-WA, Cherry Creek-CO and Univ of Utah - Salt Lake City. Cathy L. Daly is an instructor in the department of organizational behavior & environment at California State University, Sacramento. Charles Davis, Ph.D., is a professor in the department of accountancy at California State University, Sacramento. Wes Doak has a master’s of library and information science and has been a CEO, state librarian, media lab director and college instructor. He currently serves as a technology consultant to various California organizations. Craig L. Duehring, M.S., P.E., P.M.P., is a procurement engineer for the California Department of General Services. He leads an integrated products team for the state's procurement division and utilizes project management principles to help manage large and complex procurements. Rocky Dunne, M.A., has worked in all areas of adult learning disabilities (LD) in private practice and in both community college and university settings. She is currently the coordinator of learning disabilities at American River College in a program of more than 650 LD students and has taught for the College of Continuing Education since 2002. Matthew Ellington has taught AP* U.S. History for the last 13 years. He has been an AP* exam reader since 2000. He is an endorsed AP* and Pre-AP* workshop consultant and has presented numerous one day workshops for the College Board and has presented week long summer programs at Bellevue, Vancouver, Riverside, Salt Lake, and Long Beach. Joy Florentino, CMP, has been active in the meetings industry since 1990. The last ten years of her career have been with Marriott International. Joy was awarded Supplier of the Year 1996 by SGMP (Society of Government Meeting Professionals Sacramento Chapter) and Supplier of the Year 2005-2006 by MPI/SSN (Meeting Professionals International Sacramento Sierra Nevada Chapter). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for both MPI/SSN and CalSAE (California Society of Association Executives) Lani Fraizer is North America Education and Workforce Program Manager for Microsoft's IT Academy Program. She has a master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Information Technology and also in Education from California State University East Bay. Fraizer is an international speaker on virtual learning environments, organizational leadership, and IT education topics. She serves as Chair of Women in Technology and Engineering for the Association for Computing Machinery's SIGITE International. Fraizer is also Founder and Executive Director of Synergies in Sync, a leadership and program development consulting firm. Sandra Franco, MA, has been the Modern Languages Department chairperson at University High School since 1992 and has been a teacher of Spanish and AP* Spanish Language courses for more than 20 years. She has been an exam reader for 10 years and has taught numerous weeklong summer programs. In 2006, she received the "Exemplary AP* Teacher" award from the College Board. Susan Gerard, MA, is the history department chairperson at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, WA. She has been teaching AP* European History for 23 years. She has been reading AP* exams since 1996 and has been a table leader since 2000 and has also taught AP* workshops and institutes since this time. She is the recipient of several teaching awards: VFW Teacher of the Year; Stratford Foundation for Educational Leadership in History; Spokane Public Schools Distinguished Teacher Award; and in 2001 she received a Gates Foundation Teacher Leadership Grant. In 2007, she earned a National Board Professional Teaching Certification in adolescent and young adult history/social studies. Sharon Hallberg has a master’s in library science and information management from the University of Denver. She recently retired from being a librarian and mentor teacher for Davis Senior School. Currently Sharon is an Instructor for the College of Continuing Education at Sacramento State University. Karen Harold-Husted is principle of Professional Training Partners, a training, consulting and coaching firm. She has consulted with individuals, corporations, law enforcement agencies and nonprofit groups to provide educational solutions and conflict resolutions initiatives for 14 years. Katheryn Hedges, MEd, has over 15 years experience teaching AP* American Government and Politics at Deer Valley High School in Glendale, Arizona. She has also served as a mentor and instructional coach to fellow teachers, and taught at the community college level. Ms. Hedges is currently an adjunct faculty member at Glendale Community College. Jes Hernandez, MS, has been teaching Physics and AP* Physics at Lawrence Hill High School - Math, Science, and Technology School in Massachusetts for the past eight years. He has been an adjunct professor of Physics at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, MA. He currently is a reader for the AP* Physics exam and has been a College Board consultant, teaching one and five-day workshops thoughout the country. J. Ryan Hoague, MA, has taught at Temple City High School for fourteen years, including ten years of AP* English Literature. Mr. Hoague was English department chair for three years and has served on numerous committees focused on curriculum and composition. He has also been an adjunct instructor at Pasadena City College. Mr. Hoague has served as an AP* exam reader for English Literature for six years and has participated in many sessions of the California Golden State Exams in Written Composition and Reading Literature from 1997 through 2002. He has read for the Academic Decathlon and has coordinated essay scoring at his school. Mr. Hoague has reflected in depth on the elements of effective timed essay writing; he would like to share his insights about reader expectations and keys to student success. Ed Howland has been teaching AP* Studio Art at Shasta High School for the past 27 years. He has been an AP* Studio Art exam reader for 14 years and a table leader for seven years. A College Board endorsed consultant for the past 12 years, Mr. Howland has presented at AP* Studio Art workshops in Canada, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, as well as in Northern and Southern California. He is the recipient of several awards: California and National Outstanding Educator Awards (1991), National Art Honor Society Award (1991), National Pacific Art Teacher of the Year (1996), National Secondary Art Teacher of the Year (1997), California Secondary Art Teacher of the Year (2000). He currently sits on the AP* Studio Art Development Committee. Dohn Kissinger, M.B.A., Ph.D., P.M.P., helps organizations plan projects so they finish on time and within budget. He has over 25 years of business and project management experience, and is the developer of The 7 Steps to Project Success™. He was awarded an MBA at California State University, Sacramento and a Ph.D. in Engineering from Purdue University. He is a member of MPA, the official association for Microsoft Office Project. He is certified as a Blue Belt in Microsoft Project and as a Black Belt Professional in Microsoft Project Server by the International Institute for Learning (IIL) and as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI). Lee Kucera, PhD, is the mathematics department chair at Capistrano Valley High School where she teaches AP* Statistics and IB Math Studies. Kucera is a member of the American Statistical Association and has served as a reader for the AP* Statistics exam since 1997. Min Li, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the department of management information science and California State University, Sacramento. Jannene Litchfield, MBA, SPHR is a human resources professional with 20 years experience. She specializes in management development, strategic planning, organizational development, employee relations, and retention. She is also skilled in creating and implementing business metrics, management and employee practices, compensation systems, facilitating, and employee communication. Francis McMann, PhD, teaches AP* Economics and Philosophy at George Washington High School where he also serves as the Chair of the History and Social Sciences Department. Since 1991 he has served as a faculty consultant for AP* Economics and is currently a consultant for the Midwest Region. In addition to facilitating many AP* conferences and institutes, he has contributed to publications concerning economic curriculum and teaching to the College Board. He is a former member of the College Board's National Academic Advisory Group for History and Social Sciences. Kathleen McPherson, MBA, has been an instructor in the Analytical Skills program since inception. She has been instrumental in the selection of content, contract customization and oversight, as well as the use of assessment tools. She has over 15 years of experience as a legislative analyst, consultant and instructor. Kathleen has participated directly in policy analysis and implementation for state government and legislative advocacy for a nonprofit trade association. Her consulting projects include; a Business Process Analysis for the Department of Managed Health Care and two Workload Studies for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Cindy Miglino, C.M.P., worked her first wedding at the age of 14. Since then, her experience has grown to include musical festivals, horse shows, fundraising dinners, and all facets of association meeting and event planning. Penny S. Pearson, M.A., is a vocational education instructor for the Career Training Institute, Adult Education, San Juan Unified School District. David Platt, PhD, has been a fulltime mathematics faculty member at Front Range Community College since August, 2000. He has served as an AP* Exam Reader from 1991 – 1998, and from 2000 – 2006; and as a Table Leader from 2007 to the present. He has taught AP* Summer Institutes for the College Board from 1992 – 1996, and from 2003 to the present. He has also presented AP* Professional Development Workshops for the College Board from 1991 – 1998, and from 2002 to the present. His publications include a module in a pre-calculus mathematics reform textbook and an introductory computer programming textbook. Joseph Richards is an assistant professor in the department of management at California State University, Sacramento. Gary Slavit, P.M.P., is a founder of Chambray Advisors which provides training, human resources, technology, and general business consulting that specializes in helping very small businesses, startups, and non-profit organizations. The company also provides project management services to all size businesses. He has over 25 years of experience in business, consulting, information technology, and project management. Michael Smith has been teaching AP* U.S. History since 1992 at San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino, CA. He also teaches AP* American Government and Politics. He has been a reader for the U.S. History exam since 2001 and has presented U.S. History and Social Studies Vertical Team Workshops at summer institutes in Vancouver, San Marcos, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and Long Beach. Cheri Smith is the science department head at Yale Secondary, a medium sized secondary school near Vancouver, British Columbia. She has been teaching AP* Chemistry since 1988 and has worked as a consultant in the areas of AP* Chemistry and Pre-AP* Science for over a decade. Most recently, she has assisted in editing and writing of the Special Focus materials for the College Board’s AP* Chemistry workshops and the reviewing of materials for AP* Central. She has been an AP* chemistry exam reader, table and question leader since 1998, and is also the recipient of several provincial and national teaching awards, including the 1995 National Award for Teaching in Science presented to her by the Prime Minister of Canada. Jacquelyn Southward is a human resource consultant focused primarily on organizational culture and development. She has been an instructor with the College of Continuing Education for more than five years. William Teeple, M.B.A., has an extensive background in contracting, procurement and process improvement through his work and teaching in these areas. He has over 20 years experience in contracting and manufacturing. Margie Tomenko is a practicing project manager with over 10 years PM experience. She has worked for Tandem Computers, DST Output, and currently, for Computer Deductions, Inc. Margie earned her PMP certification from Project Management Institute (PMI) and her Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Purdue University. After obtaining the Community College teaching credential, Margie has been teaching on-line and in-person classes for over 15 years, both Project Management as well as computer related courses. Project Management is a natural for Margie - the multi-tasking, the people interfacing, the coordination and creative thinking all work to provide an adrenalin rush that makes working - and teaching - a pleasure! Lee Towe, M.B.A., P.M.P., is a project manager and senior trainer for PMLeader.com, one of the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Charter Registered Education Providers. He is one of PMI's presenters for SeminarsWorld and is the primary author of the human resource chapter of the 2004 Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge®. Edward Trimis, M.A., is currently principal at Manual Arts High School. He has been a College Board consultant and exam reader for several years and has contributed to the AP* Music Theory Teacher's Guide. Mr. Trimis has taught one and five-day AP* courses in San Mateo, Orange, Salt Lake City, Alhambra, and at the Pacific AP* Institute. He founded the first AP* Music Theory course in the Los Angeles Unified School District and his syllabus is on file as an example for schools which offer the course for the first time. Mr. Trimis has received numerous awards, including, but not limited to: Music Center of Los Angeles County's Bravo Award (finalist), the Los Angeles County Music Educators Association Teacher of the Year award, and an outstanding educator award from United Teachers, Los Angeles. Bill Vicars is the president of Lifeprint Institute, a consultation business focusing on sign language communication and assistive technology. He has an Ed.D. in deaf studies/deaf education and over 15 years of university-level ASL teaching experience. He currently teaches in the ASL program at California State University, Sacramento. Martha (Marty) Wilson, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the College of Business at Sacramento State University Kathryn "Gussie" Wyndham, MA, was one of the first 50 teachers to be trained in AP* World History. She has served as a speaker for the Western Division, the International Division, and the National AP* Conference. Ms. Wyndham has presented AP* World History to colleagues in Vancouver and Toronto, Canada as well. Ms. Wyndham has been an AP* exam reader for five years. She has been a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship, Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, and William Coe Scholarship, as well as the East Asian Institute.
