Dear Colleague:
I am pleased to invite you to our third statewide alcohol and other drug conference June 18-20, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame. This conference builds on the success of the 2006 conference in Sacramento where participants told us they appreciated the networking opportunities, the diversity of topics and the quality of the presentations. Many indicated they learned tools they could take back with them to the field. We have an outstanding lineup of keynote speakers this year including Assembly member Karen Bass, Dr. Pablo Stewart, A. Thomas McLellan, Ph.D., Don Coyhis, and Kathy Sanders-Phillips, Ph.D.
We’ll also devote significant time to update you on the progress we are making in building a continuum of care in prevention, treatment, and recovery and why a continuum of care is so essential to providing the best quality of care for our clients. The conference will also address cultural competency and recovery support services, such as housing and employment. A focus on special populations will include women, youth and clients in the criminal justice system and special issues will be addressed such as co-occurring disorders and other addictions including gambling, eating disorders and smoking.
I am very pleased to announce that we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs at the conference. The conference promises to be exciting and informative. I look forward to seeing you!
