Renee ZitoThese are challenging times for those of us in the field of alcohol and other drug prevention, treatment, and recovery. We all face limitations on available resources—fiscal and otherwise—and we need to share our ideas, opportunities, and innovations to further our combined goals for the field.

I invite you to join me at our fourth statewide Training Conference to be held October 12-14, 2010, at the beautiful Radisson Hotel in Sacramento. We have gathered a host of brilliant men and women as keynote and workshop presenters who will bring new energy and perspective to the current environment.

Our theme declares our intention for the coming year — “Strongest Together: Building Quality Services During Challenging Times”.

To help us address that theme and the challenges ahead, we have invited Susan Kennedy, Chief of Staff for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, to kick off our training conference.

Our workshops will inspire and energize with new perspectives and ideas for collaboration. Here is just a sampling of our exceptional presenters: Dr. A. Thomas McLellan, Deputy Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and one of the nation’s leading experts in the field of alcohol and other drug abuse; Dr. Dennis D. Embry, CEO/President of PAXIS Institute in Tucson, Arizona and co-investigator at both the National Center on Early Adolescence in Oregon and the Center on Prevention and Early Intervention at Johns Hopkins University; Dr. Michael Flaherty, Executive Director of the Institute for Research, Education and Training in Addictions who is a clinical psychologist and principal investigator at Northeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center serving New York and Pennsylvania; and North Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Rogelio Flores who presides over a number of specialty courts in Santa Maria including the Substance Abuse Treatment Court (treatment mandated by passage of Proposition 36) and other calendars focusing on offenders with co-occurring disorders.

We have much to offer, so come! Make new contacts and network with old friends. You will benefit from attending in so many ways.

I look forward to seeing you!
