Dear Conference Attendees:

It is our pleasure to invite you to the seventh annual Making-It-Work! 2007 technical assistance conference for Proposition 36, scheduled for October 9-12, 2007, in San Diego at the Marriott Del Mar.

This year’s conference will emphasize the continuum of care with plenary sessions and workshops covering such issues as; Proposition 36 reauthorization and reforms, sober living environments, dual diagnosis, drug court role and how it relates to treatment, audits, Offender Treatment Program outcomes, regulations regarding narcotic treatment programs, drug testing as a tool, and county best practices. Continuum of Services System Re-Engineering principles will be ddressed in relation to the above mentioned programs.

The Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention Act (SACPA) of 2000 has been successful thanks to the collaboration, partnership, and dedication of everyone involved. To continue building on these successes the conference will offer technical assistance and training to all 58 California county lead agency teams. These teams are comprised of lead agency representatives, judges, alcohol and other drug treatment providers, probation, parole, district attorneys, local law enforcement, and public defenders.

This combination of training, technical assistance and discussion will provide opportunities to build on the strengths of the system to meet the continuing
challenges. Each county will have the opportunity to further develop collaboration within their county team, share information with other counties and offer structured recommendations to the Department.

We look forward to a lively and fruitful gathering and hope to see you there!
