SECURE COMMUNITY REENTRY FACILITIES REGIONAL WORKSHOPS
In May of this year, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 900, the Public Safety and Offender Rehabilitation Services Act of 2007, a historic prison reform agreement. This agreement represents a seismic shift in California's correctional system and provides for the largest prison capital outlay program in decades.

Chief among the provisions of Assembly Bill 900 are funding for increased offender programming, 16,000 beds in Secure Reentry Facilities, and an appropriation of $1.2 billion in jail construction funding through State lease-revenue bonds.  These facilities will enable the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and local community agencies to create an unprecedented continuity of care in the provision of needed support services. Reentry Facilities will be built in cities, counties or regions willing to partner with CDCR, to achieve the purposes of this initiative.

We must paint a picture for communities about the vision of the Secure Community Reentry Facilities.  Therefore, the CDCR, in conjunction with the California State Sheriffs Association, the California State Association of Counties, the League of California Cities, the Chief Probation Officers Association, the California Mental Health Directors Association, the County Alcohol & Drug Program Administrators Association of California, and the Association of California Cities Allied with Prisons, has begun a statewide informational campaign on the benefits and responsibilities of bringing Secure Community Reentry Facilities into our communities. A series of nine statewide regional workshops has been organized beginning July 30th through October 5th, 2007.

This is an invite only event – Due to limited space, registration is required.
