2007 Parent Leadership Award

The Department of Social Services, Office of Child Abuse Prevention will honor three (3) parents whose leadership in the child welfare services have made a difference for families and communities.  We are looking for parents who have gone that “extra-mile” to support and mentor families, participate on planning committees, assist with program development, and/or who have contributed to a special project that changed the course of a family’s life.   

Do you know a parent who is an inspiration to others, has demonstrated outstanding commitment to families, is an exemplary leader, and has had a significant impact on the child welfare services? If you know of a deserving parent, please provide a short description (350 words maximum) of their achievements. The winners will be announced January 22, 2007 and will be honored at the Parent Leadership Conference on January 30, 2007 in Sacramento.

Nomination Procedure and Guidelines 
 

Any person or group of persons with direct knowledge of the nominee's contributions may nominate a parent. Family members of the nominee may not nominate them.

We’re looking for parents whose leadership qualities and contributions to the child welfare services system have made a difference for families and communities.  For example, excellent leadership practices may be demonstrated through:

  • Support/mentoring provided to parents   
  • Involvement in planning of local community projects or services
  • Representation on committees and community activities related to child welfare services
  • Training/coaching other parents to be mentors

The nomination package must include:

  • A completed Nomination Form
  • Maximum 350 word summary describing the nominee's background and   contributions,  concise details about activities and participation, and how their actions helped families and/or benefited child welfare services
  • Contact information for the person making the nomination
  • One reference who may be contacted regarding this nomination
