9:00 am – 5:00 pm   Border 2012 Work Group Meeting

The Border 2012 Tire Work Group meeting will provide a forum to present six action steps central to developing sustainable scrap-tire management plans.  The actions are derived from the U.S. - Mexico Border Scrap Tire Integrated Management Initiative referred to as the “Tire Initiative”.  The Tire Initiative was agreed upon by the Border 2012 Tire Group in coordination with Mexico’s Secretariat of Environmental and Natural Resources and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and signed by both nations in October 2006.  Panelists will discuss and provide background information on the Tire Initiative’s actions which cover understanding scrap tire generation, regulatory options to administer scrap tire management plans, market development, eliminating existing scrap-tire piles, stakeholder involvement and educational outreach programs.

The Border 2012 Work Group emphasizes collaboration among stakeholders who have an interest in border scrap tire issues. The relevant stakeholders include federal, state and local governments from the United States and Mexico, other governmental organizations, academia, the private sector, and nongovernmental organizations.  Through the concentrated efforts of the Border 2012 Tire Group, all interested parties can achieve their aims in a mutually beneficial way.  The Border 2012 Program is a results-driven partnership between U.S. and Mexican federal, state, and local governments and U.S. tribes to improve environmental conditions and protect public health along the 2,000-mile United States – Mexico border.  (http://www.epa.gov/border2012/)

This meeting is open to anyone with an interest in United States - Mexico Border scrap tire issues.  Translation services will be provided.  There is a fee of $0 for individuals that are not members of the Border 2012 Working Group or the Border Governor’s Conference.   English/Spanish translation services will be available.

Meeting Information:  Participants will be provided with a continental breakfast.  Lunch and afternoon refreshments will be provided.  All materials will be available upon check-in at the meeting.
