Dear Colleague:
I am pleased to invite you
to the first Symposium
presented by the California
State Information Security
Office and the California
Office of HIPAA Implementation in recognition of October as National Cyber Security
Awareness Month. This event is an exciting way to
increase executive-level awareness about the importance
of cyber security.
The presenters at this year’s Symposium will address cyber
issues that affect every agency. They will share their firsthand
experiences, such as removing personal information
from public documents published on the Internet and
other innovative approaches taken in response to a
large personal data breach. These presentations will be
followed by a panel discussion on emerging cyber security
challenges.
Panelist topics include:
- Crisis Management - How to Talk About Your
Security Breach
- Practical Privacy and Security - Today and for the
Future
- Securing Health Information
Protecting information has become an integral part of
security and privacy and the consequences of security
breaches for executives have never been greater.
Forward-thinking executives learn how to leverage their
chief technologists, specifically their Information Security
Officer (ISO) as well as their Chief Information Officer
(CIO), to ensure that security is not an afterthought. The
Symposium will provide you information about cyber
issues and how working with your ISO can help you
proactively address them through an active information
security and risk management program.
The Symposium, Securing California:
Exploring Cyber Security Solutions
for California Government, is a great
opportunity to learn about emerging
issues and lessons learned that will
help you avoid the same pitfalls. I look
forward to meeting you and sharing this
important information.
Colleen Pedroza
State Information Security Officer
