Call for Proposals

 

Submission Deadline: June 10, 2010

 

Please submit your proposal online if you are interested in presenting a workshop at the ICAN Nexus XV Training Conference scheduled on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City, California. This conference will explore family violence, in particular the nexus between child abuse and domestic violence.

 

Please note: Submission of a proposal does not assure it will be selected. Following the review of all proposals, you will be notified if yours has been accepted.

 

We invite proposals for workshop presentations that may include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

 

  • The effects of family violence on personality development
  • Workshops that provide youth perspective on family violence
  • Effective school programs addressing youth and family violence
  • Working with perpetrator of family violence
  • Workshops that address issues of grief and loss for victims of family violence
  • Helping professionals deal with grief, loss and compassion fatigue in their working environment
  • Male involvement programs that teach child-rearing and the role of fathers in preventing violence in the home
  • Legal and criminal justice issues relating to family violence
  • Substance abuse and family violence
  • Abuse of vulnerable populations (e.g., elder abuse, teen violence, same-sex partnership violence, developmentally disabled)
  • Cultural and immigration issues as they relate to family violence
  • Sexual orientation, gender identity, and gay and lesbian issues as they relate to family violence
  • New approaches to intervention, prevention, and treatment for all aspects of family violence
  • Other topics related to aspects of family violence and child abuse and neglect (e.g., domestic animal abuse)

 

When preparing your workshop, please keep the following in mind:

 

  • Workshops are 90 minutes in length
  • We recommend that your workshop be limited to no more than four (4) presenters to ensure that each speaker has adequate time to speak
  • Whenever possible, use visual aids
  • If possible, provide real life examples and/or vignettes in your presentation or research supporting your presentation
  • Allow some time for questions and answers or open discussion
  • If you are presenting in PowerPoint, we suggest that you expand your comments beyond simply reading your lines

 

Instructions to Submit Your Online Proposal

 

  1. The deadline for submissions has passed
  2. Please complete the required fields for each proposed workshop
  3. Make sure your workshop title accurately reflects the content of the workshop
  4. In preparing your workshop description, please include the following:
    • Main points to be covered in your presentation
    • Relevance to conference attendees
    • How the session is unique from others that might address the same topic
  5. In addition, please submit a resume/curriculum vitae (CV) for each presenter by e-mail or mail to the following address:
