Intensive English Program

The English Language Institute at California State University, Sacramento is delighted to introduce you to our wonderful community of English language learners.

We hope you have a wonderful time with us as you develop your English language proficiency, heighten your cross cultural awareness, and enhance your professional growth and development. You will meet people from all over the world in your classes, participate in cultural and social events, and explore the beautiful city of Sacramento and the state of California.

Program Dates

Our intensive English program runs five (5) sessions a year.  Each session is eight (8) weeks in length.  There is a two week break between sessions.  All new students will be required to attend a week long orientation session prior to attending classes.

Program Overview

English Teacher Training Program

The English Teacher Training Program offers international participants a unique practicum experience in the United States. Our program combines classroom instruction centered on relevant pedagogy with well-supported practice in engaging teaching methods to prepare participants for real-world classroom “practicum” in regional schools.

The English Teacher Training Program is designed for current and future teachers from around the world including: elementary school teachers, secondary school teachers, current students studying to be teachers, university professors and faculty in education.

Requirements/Eligibility

  • Be a current teacher or undergraduate/graduate student studying to be a teacher
  • Be 18+ years of age
  • Have a valid passport and email address (see online application)
  • Purchase of CSU International Student Health Insurance policy

Students in the English Teacher Training Program must purchase the CSU International Student Health Insurance policy (administered by Wells Fargo Insurance Services USA, Inc.) as a condition of registration and continued enrollment prior to the start of cla

Housing

There are many housing options to consider, such as homestays, apartments (furnished or unfurnished) and private housing rentals. Each type of housing will vary in living space, costs and food service availability. 

Eli staff is happy to assist with answering general questions regarding housing but you are responsible for making your own housing arrangements.

American Language and Culture
Certificate Program

The American Language and Culture Program is a four-week course of study at California State University, Sacramento. The program is organized into four unique thematic units that encourage students to explore several key aspects of American culture while building their academic literacy and communication skills in English.  Each unit leads the student to observe, examine, and investigate American culture through a particular lens, incorporating engaging texts and multiple tasks that develop students’ academic reading, writing, listening and speaking in English.  The curriculum also includes opportunities for students to gain deeper knowledge and understanding of what they are learning in the classroom through weekly field trips in and around the city of Sacramento.

Tuition and Costs for American Language and Culture Program

Program cost: $2,000 (including the $100 non-refundable deposit)

Any university or group that enrolls five or more students in the American Language and Culture program will receive a 10% discount.
