University Policies


Social Security Number

The student's social security number is used and required as the individual identifier in all student records. Failure to provide the social security number can result in the student being denied services. Such personally identifiable records are not shared or distributed to private individuals or agencies unless such sharing or distribution is authorized by the student or unless lawfully available.

Privacy Act

Sacramento State is authorized under the Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 to release to the public directory information concerning students. Directory information includes the student’s name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, and other pertinent information. The above information is subject to release by the campus at any time unless the campus has received prior written objection from the student specifying information which the student requests not be released. Consent may be withdrawn by the student during each semester of attendance. To withdraw consent the student needs to complete the appropriate forms at the registrar’s service window. Non-Discrimination Policy

Veteran's Benefits

Most Continuing Education programs are approved for training of veterans. If you are eligible for veteran's educational benefits please call (916) 278-4433 for information.

Tax Credits

If you are enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program or are taking courses to acquire or improve job skills, you may qualify for a Hope Scholarship or Lifetime Learning Tax Credit. The Hope Scholarship is available only to students in the first two years of post-secondary education who are enrolled at least half time in an eligible program. The Lifetime Learning Tax Credit is available to students at all educational and enrollment levels who are enrolled at an eligible educational institution. The tax credits are based on the amount of qualified tuition and fees, less grants and other tax-free educational assistance, and the taxpayer¹s modified adjusted gross income. Consult IRS Publication 970 or your tax advisor for additional information.


Campus Security and Crime Statistics

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, California State University, Sacramento has made crime statistics available online at www.csus.edu/police/cleryact.htm. Reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Sacramento State and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus, during the last three years are included. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault and other safety matters. Print copies are available in the library and by request from the Office of Public Safety and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Statement for Quality Standards

Sacramento State College of Continuing Education programs are viewed as extensions of the institution’s education services and are in concert with the institution’s overall mission and purpose. Classes are expected to meet the standards and quality which the institution sets for its other programs and courses, in terms of resources, faculty level of instruction, evaluation and support services. For further information regarding the conditions and requirements of the University, the student is urged to review the current University Catalog.

Maximum Credit Policy

The maximum number of units in which a student may enroll without a petition is 5.0. The petition procedure requires approval of both the student’s major advisor and the dean of the College of Continuing Education. The excess units petition can be obtained at the Continuing Education Records counter prior to registration.

Disabled Students

  • In accordance to the Americans with Disabilities Act, Continuing Education will provide the following services to students with disabilities: note takers, sign language interpreters, readers, and test proctors. Students must submit disability documentation and notify the offices of Continuing Education and services to students with disabilities at least 15 working days before the first class.
