About the Program
In conjunction with Hubei Local Taxation Bureau, the College of Continuing Education has developed a customized training program for 18 of their professional employees. The rigorous, yearlong program, which began last August, was designed to incorporate academic education, professional experience, and leadership training.
The 10 women and 8 men in this cohort were selected from a group of 80 after a yearlong program of study of English in their home country. They are learning about the U.S. taxation system as they take courses in both business and international accounting.
Each scholar is looking to participate in a government-to-government exchange experience that will expose them to the issues and working styles of local and state agencies in the areas of finance, taxation, and accountancy. This “intergovernmental experience” is designed to provide a hands-on research opportunity for the scholars, and will be incorporated into their final learning activity: a major paper that focuses on a particular aspect of taxation and accountancy.
The duration of the experience is flexible, and it is hoped that these students will be able to experience some of the day-to-day working of the agency in which they are placed. In addition to their own learning, each of these students is an experienced professional in the field and will come prepared to share their own experiences and background. |
