Statement of Capabilities

The Applied Research Center at Sacramento State provides applied research on a wide variety of topics to State of California agencies, local governments, and private firms.

The Center has a staff of expert researchers, and also has the ability to bring in faculty and researchers from many Schools and Departments at the University and even private consultants as necessary. This capability allows the Center to provide multi-disciplinary expertise and the highest academic research quality in a relatively short time interval with a minimum of startup and embedded overhead costs.

The Center is administered through the College of Continuing Education at California State University, Sacramento and can contract with other State agencies and departments through inter-agency agreements.

Examples of the types of research the Center can provide

  • Agency or Departmental Economic Impact studies which quantify the economic benefits of the services or activities of the entity, both regionally and state wide.
  • Housing studies including demographic analysis, market and pricing analysis, and effects of regulatory and market intervention actions.
  • Economic impact analysis including effects of project decisions on gross state or regional product, employment, levels of revenues for specific types of businesses and industries, and state and local tax generation.
  • Labor force and employment analysis including the effects of educational and skills attainment on economic growth and competitiveness.
  • Econometric modeling at the local, regional, and industry level to provide business forecasting, economic development planning, business planning, or agency/department planning.
  • Financial evaluations of projects including rates of return, optimal financial structure, risk analysis, and asset management strategies.
  • Market studies including market potential and geographical extent, projections of demand for services, competitive environment, and key risk factors.
  • Applications of the 2000 census public use micro sample, including detailed analysis of specific demographic and economic characteristics, including small-area analysis.
