Welcome prospective students from Korea Accounting & Information School 

The College of Business Administration (CBA) and the College of Continuing Education (CCE) at Sacramento State, in partnership with the Korea Accounting & Information School (KAIS), are pleased to offer the Masters of Science in Accounting to an international audience.  The program is delivered completely online in a format that allows working professionals to participate at convenient times throughout the day or evening. 
                                                        
California State University, Sacramento  (Sacramento State or Sac State)
California State University, Sacramento is the seventh-largest university in the 23-campus CSU system, enrolling a multicultural student body of nearly 28,000. As California’s Capital University, our students enjoy extensive research and internship opportunities. Sacramento is the heart of California government and one of the fastest growing regions in the nation. Nearly 6,000 students graduate from Sac State each year. Sacramento State – College of Business Administration:
The College of Business Administration (CBA) offers a broad, professional education in Business. Students have the benefit of working with experienced faculty who stay in touch with the latest trends in the field of business and bring contemporary perpectives into the classroom experience.
The College of Business Administration is fully accredited by the AACSB International — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Fewer than one-fourth of all four-year universities in the nation qualify for this accreditation.  The dean of the College of Business Administration is Sanjay Varshney.

Sacramento State – College of Continuing Education:
At the College of Continuing Education (CCE), we are dedicated to our mission of encouraging lifelong learning by developing and providing opportunities for personal and professional growth. CCE has been offering courses, seminars, institutes, workshops and conferences since 1951. As a self-supporting educational unit of Sacramento State, CCE receives no public funding for its operation. Fees collected for each class cover instruction and administrative costs.

CCE offers several degree completion programs in collaboration with college and departments of the main campus. Potential students must apply and be admitted to these degree programs.  Classes are offered in various locations on the Sacramento State campus, including classrooms and labs in Napa Hall (the home of CCE). In addition, many courses are offered entirely online.
 
CCE instructors are chosen for their in-depth knowledge and expertise in a specific subject. Some are University faculty members and many are highly regarded practitioners on the leading edge of their profession.  The dean of the College of Continuing Education is Alice Tom.

MS Accountancy Program Information:
The MS in Accountancy degree is granted by the College of Business Administration which is fully accredited by the AACSB - the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  The College of Continuing Education (CCE) coordinates the administrative aspects of the MS in Accountancy program with the Korea Accounting & Technology School such as admission, registration and tuition payment.
 
Instructors in the MS in Accountancy program are among the finest faculty and/or professionals in the accountancy field. They have all completed advanced degrees or are practicing professionals, bringing current and cutting-edge accounting education to the classroom. Our instructors are experienced in the emerging issues in the accounting, taxation, and information systems field and bring the relevance of contemporary issues into the program content.

Program Structure
The MS Accountancy program uses a web-based learning program called WebCT which allows students the flexibility of entering the course site at various times and locations - wherever there is internet connection. The faculty and students are able to communicate using online chat discussion boards. The distance education delivery mode used by the MS Accountancy program at Sacramento State vastly increases the flexibility by which students can complete their degree. Many of the courses are offered in a compressed semester format and the entire program can be completed in accelerated time frame.

The following courses and schedules are specific to the Korea Accounting & Information School (KAIS) participants.

Course Descriptions:

ECON 204 - Business Economics (3 units) Required prerequisite - if not waived
Intensive one-semester course covering both macroeconomics and microeconomics. Emphasis is on economic analysis and policy. Designed for graduate students who have not taken ECON 001A and ECON 001B or their equivalents.

MBA 201 - Accounting (2 units) Required prerequisite - if not waived
Course introduces concepts and models of financial accounting. Included are the analysis, interpretation and reporting of financial events.

MBA 203 – Legal Environment of Management (2 Units)
Required prerequisite -if not waived
Intensive study of important aspects of law for managers, including law as an instrument of social and political control. Analyzes selected problems in areas of private law such as contract, tort, business organizations, and agency. In addition, selected issues of administrative law and government regulation of business will be investigated.

ACCY 260 – Financial Accounting Theory (3 Units)
Financial accounting theory development, principles underlying corporate financial statements, alternative methods and principles, survey of current literature in financial accounting theory. Additional topics may include the relationship between financial statements and security prices, market efficiency, and casework in accounting aspects of financial statement analysis.  Prerequisite: ACCY 250

ACCY 261 – Cost Analysis and Control (3 Units)
Fundamentals of cost accounting concepts and practice relating to cost accumulation, control, and analysis for managerial planning and decision making. Specific topics generally include product costing, standards, cost allocation, estimation, budgeting, transfer pricing, and performance evaluation. Emphasis is on current issues.

ACCY 262 – Current Topics in Auditing (3 Units)
Seminar in current issues facing the auditing profession. Topics may include role of auditing in society, professionalism and ethics, auditor judgment and decision making, auditing theory, computer auditing, statistical sampling, fraud auditing, internal and operational auditing, and auditing in a global economy. Prerequisite: ACCY 131 or instructor permission.

ACCY 265 – Advanced Accounting Information Systems Analysis and Control (3 Units)
Emphasis on the role of computer and information technology in the development, analysis, and operation of accounting information systems; may include advanced coverage of accounting transaction cycles, accounting systems planning and analysis, accounting system design, accounting systems implementation and operation, the accounting system internal control structure, data modeling and database design in accounting, computer fraud and security, and auditing of computer-based information systems.

ACCY 269 – Individual and Business Income Tax Accounting (3 Units)
Intensive analysis of the Internal Revenue Code as it affects the business enterprise; study of the tax law as it relates to the economical, political, and social environment within which it developed; discussion of tax cases to give the student an appreciation for the complexity of the tax law, and special tax problems relating to formation, current operation, and liquidation of corporations, partnerships, estates, and trusts. Tax planning and research methodology are emphasized.

ACCY 250 – Financial Accounting (3 units)
Intensive study of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statements.

ACCY 251 – Foundation of International Accounting (3 Units)
The role of culture in accounting; comparative international financial and managerial accounting fundamentals; international financial statement analysis; international accounting standards and U.S. GAAP convergence; international business combinations; foreign exchange; international auditing; international taxation; and international capital flows.

ACCY 275 – International Wealth and Asset Management (3 Units)
Importance of global asset protection and wealth management; domestic Statutory and case law authorities of selected European, American and Asian countries as they relate to wealth protection and asset management; bi-lateral international agreements relating to wealth management and asset protection, Multilateral agreement affecting wealth management and asset protection; tax and legal liability minimizing models.

ACCY 277 - Comparative International Tax Systems (3 Units)
The similarities and differences between current global tax systems including jurisdiction and conflict of laws issues; the role of bilateral international tax treaties and other international tax related agreements in business operations; international tax planning for individuals and multinational enterprise including corporations, partnerships and estates and trusts.

ACCY 281 – Issues in International Accounting Strategy (3 Units)
Overview of international financial reporting standards (IFRS) and comparison with U.S Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); international accounting issues in the technology sector; informational accounting issues in the manufacturing industries, international accounting issues in business combinations; and intangible asset valuation under U.S. GAAP and IFRS.  Successful completion of this capstone course will be one of the ways to satisfy the culminating experience for the MS/Accountancy program.
