Excellence in Leadership
Targeting the Leader Within

Excellence in Leadership
Targeting the Leader Within

A 12-week interactive executive series, Excellence in Leadership: Targeting the Leader Within, is designed to identify and develop aspiring leaders in public, private and nonprofit organizations who are preparing for positions of broad responsibility. Through the assessment and development of key leadership skills and the integration of theory and practice, this series equips leaders to address the critical issues impacting their organizations.

360-Degree Leadership Assessments

A Leadership Practice Inventory (LPI) is completed before and eight months after completing the series. These assessments assist participants and their sponsors in identifying personal leadership development priorities and marking their progress in achieving them.

Innovative Learning Models

Renowned speakers and scholars provide a balance of conceptual and practical perspectives on key issues. Participants engage in candid conversations with local leaders through a series of participant-conducted executive interviews.

Experiential Activities

Team-building and leadership application activities integrate theory and practice to help participants craft innovative solutions and enhance problem-solving skills applicable across all organizational levels.

Application Project

Participants identify a critical issue that impacts their organization and work in colleague-consulting teams to plan and implement a solution.

Alumni Networking

Graduates of Excellence in Leadership meet regularly to share best practices, continue their leadership development and extend their professional networks.

Series Overview

Orientation

The series opens with a full-day event designed to:

  • Clarify goals and expectations with a “Tools for Success” workshop that outlines the learning model.
  • Build cross-sector teams by engaging in experiential activities designed to establish trust and identify successful leadership strategies.
  • Provide strategies and skills for success through a luncheon panel of Excellence in Leadership alumni who will discuss their experiences and field questions. Organizational sponsors are invited to join their participants for lunch.

Nine Afternoon Sessions

The Dynamic Leader

What role will emerging leaders play in organizations of the future? What messages will these organizations convey to their constituencies? How can organizations respond creatively to the changing international market? These questions establish the foundation for three sessions that link theory with action and provide a contact point for cutting-edge models and common-sense realities.
• The Future Role of Leaders • Achieving Focus • Power, Money and Politics

Thriving in Change

Economic upheaval fueled by international political tensions, the state budget crisis and a loss of faith in the business community has intensified the need for strong change leadership. These three interactive sessions explore structural, technical, interpersonal and process strategies for leading dynamic organizations.
• Designing for Change • Building Trust • Leading a Value-Based Organization

Creating High-Performance Organizations

In both the public and private arenas, organizations are competing on a global level to meet constantly rising performance expectations with increasingly limited resources. These three interactive sessions focus on the strategies to meet and exceed these expectations.
• Communication Issues • Measuring Assets • Modeling Quality Leadership
