The Office of Water Programs (OWP) at Sacramento State’s College of Engineering and Computer Science, in partnership with the College of Continuing Education, provides world-class distance learning courses for persons interested in the water industry. OWP currently offers 22 self-paced book and video correspondence courses and 10 on-line courses designed to train and educate individuals in the operation, maintenance, and management of drinking water and wastewater facilities and systems. OWP also offers 3 courses in Stormwater Best Management Practices.
OWP is recognized globally as a training leader in the water business. All courses are developed by practicing professional operators and Sacramento State subject matter experts and are currently used by water operators and managers in 108 countries, 10 Canadian provinces, and every state in the union. More than 600 colleges and universities use OWP materials as part of their curriculum.

Credit and Certification
Courses are taken in preparation for state certification examinations in the areas of water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, municipal and industrial wastewater treatment and reuse. All OWP courses earn continuing education units (CEUs) for recertification. OWP also offers two Specialist Certificate Programs. The Water Treatment Plant Operations Specialist Certificate Program and the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation Specialist Certificate programs offer operators an opportunity to earn a certificate of proficiency by completing three water or wastewater treatment courses. Students will earn 6 academic credits from Sacramento State for each completed course, designed for both entry-level and experienced operators in the water treatment industry. This program is approved for G.I. Bill reimbursement.
