Coding

July 27 – July 31, 1-5 p.m.
Learn the basics of computer coding and how professions – from information technology to science and the arts – value coding and computer science skills. Gain a solid understanding of how programming languages are used to build applications.

Cyber Security

June 22 – June 26, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Explore the world of hackers, cyber attacks and online threats in a computer lab setting. Examine infamous security cases, gain hands-on lab experience and discover exciting careers in the field of cyber security.

Data Science

July 27 – July 31, 1-5 p.m.
Learn how your data is tracked. Find insights hidden in every day information, from the apps on your smartphone to your online purchases. Cleanse data, apply algorithms written in the computer language called R and learn visualization methods.

Digital Forensics

June 22 – June 26, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 
Want to find evidence left behind on a hard drive? Learn digital forensics principles and techniques through hands-on practices, and learn how to investigate a criminal or civil case that involves computers.

Engineering and Robotics

July 20 – July 24, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Build and program your own robot to perform tasks. Learn about careers in engineering and artificial intelligence. Plus, design and build a popsicle stick bridge, then compete to see whose bridge can withstand the heaviest load.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

July 27 – July 31, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
What does it mean to be an entrepreneur? Gain valuable insights into what it takes to turn a great idea into a reality through interactive classroom discussions, field trips, guest speakers and a “Shark Tank”-like pitch event. The Carlsen Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Sacramento State will also be contributing to our academy.

Exploring Careers in Design: Interior Design, Architecture and Construction

Fashion

See how an idea turns into a product and how it’s merchandised to the public. Get hands-on experience in fashion illustration. Learn to reuse, repurpose and upcycle designs of your own, then participate in a fashion show featuring your work.

Explore the rigors of fire station life, academy training and physical fitness requirements, while discovering career pathways in emergency and medical services. Earn a CPR certificate.

Do you know what a physical therapist does or a clinical lab scientist? What about a radiologist? Explore traditional and nontraditional health professions, learn the daily duties of paramedics and earn a CPR certificate.

Introduction to Biotechnology

July 27 – July 31, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Gain hands-on experience in biotechnology. Extract DNA from cells, handle bacterial transformations, amplify DNA using the PCR molecular biology technique, use restriction enzymes to identify DNA sequences and perform gel electrophoresis.

Introduction to Welding and Fabrication

July 13 – July 17, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Enter Sac State’s Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop for hands-on experience in engineering and fabrication. Learn the fundamentals of welding, how to use basic fabrication equipment such as sheet metal breaks, shears and drill presses, and create your own welding project.

July 6 – July 10, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Tour a TV studio, learn interviewing skills and get hands-on training in multimedia storytelling. Learn how to shoot professional-style video on your smartphone.  Work in a Sac State computer lab to write, narrate and edit videos.
