At the annual Hornet Heartsaver campus-wide community event, American Heart Association certified CPR instructors teach participants proper techniques for chest compressions and demonstrate safety precautions when performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Student peer educators speak to participants about the significance of nutrition and exercise in maintaining a heart healthy lifestyle. The event also includes a heart-healthy lunch for participants, Zumba courses and disco dancing, as the American Heart Association recommends the beat of the Bee Gee’s classic “Stayin’ Alive” as a way to remember the rhythm of chest compressions while performing CPR.
