Herky joined the College of Continuing Education at the 2nd annual Hornet Heartsaver CPR party at the University Union. The event celebrates Heart Health Month and promotes cardiovascular health and the importance of learning CPR.

Hundreds of people got a taste of a full-fledged CPR class when they practiced chest compressions on mannequins and received a heart healthy turkey sandwich for their efforts. Sacramento State President Robert Nelsen was among those who stopped by. He presented Sac State graphic artist Kevin Swaim with a national award from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association for his Hornet Heartsaver artwork. ABC10 anchor Cristina Mendonsa and Channel 31 Good Day personality Tina Macuha, who are Sac State alumni, emceed the event.

Sacramento State has been an American Heart Association Authorized Training Center since 2012 and was the first campus in the CSU system to earn the distinction.

Students, faculty, staff and alumni who take the Hornet Heartsaver CPR classes receive Hornet pricing. The price break makes a big difference for the two-year certification, with a basic CPR class as low a $35.
