Honored for Years of Service
2016 Staff Employees Awards Luncheon
Students are the heart of the university and the faculty, the minds, said Sacramento State President Robert Nelsen, but staff are “the blood, sweat and tears.” The president spoke at the 2016 Staff Awards Luncheon at the University Union Ballroom.
“You make the university work,” Nelsen said as he congratulated nearly 170 staff members for their record of service, recognizing 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years at Sac State.
Eight individuals from the College of Continuing Education were among the honorees, including 10-year veteran Hei Fok, who manages professional development programs. “It’s a right fit for me,” he says of his career at CCE. “I knew early on I wanted to be in higher education. I think it’s the calling from higher education that keeps me here.”
Dr. Jenni Murphy carved a 15-year career at CCE, where she managed the professional development arm of the college, built a communications and marketing team, led the realignment of CCE’s central operations, and today, serves as an associate dean. “It’s about making a difference in the lives of others and we have the opportunity to do that with students, regional employers, and our own staff.”
CCE’s senior graphic designer Mike Alie was also recognized for 15 years of service. He’s created promotional campaigns for academic degree and certificate programs and designed the award-winning CCE calendar. “I’ve appreciated being able to do what I love and to be a part of something meaningful that affects people’s lives.”
Other CCE honorees included Michelle Gianini, a senior program manager who retired after 10 years of service; Nicole Baptista, an academic programs manager, and Jim Younkin, a technology operations manager, each with 15 years; Manuela McClary, a senior program coordinator with 20 years; and Jill Matsueda, an academic programs director with 25 years at the university.
