Why would students be interested in Sac State’s Summer Academies?

It’s a fun way to explore different careers with hands-on activities and field trips while getting a taste of college.

What academies are offered?

We have academies in STEM-related fields, education, creative arts, business, public safety and more. Here are the academy course descriptions.

Who is eligible?

The program is for open to all high school students who have completed the 8th grade and high school seniors who have just graduated.

When do the academies run?

The weeklong academies are held throughout the months of June and July:

  • June 22 – June 26
  • July 6 – July 10
  • July 13 – July 17
  • July 20 – July 24
  • July 27 – July 31

How much do the academies cost? 

Most of our 4-hour weeklong academies costs $305, plus $25 for materials. The Engineering and Robotics Academy is one exception due to the cost of the robot kit. Another exception is the Fashion Academy, which is an 8-hour weeklong academy.

Are scholarships available?

Yes, the priority deadline for scholarships was Friday, Feb. 28, but applications are still being accepted. Download the application.

Who leads the academies?

The academies are taught by Sacramento State professors and professionals in different industries. 

When do you pay for the academies?

Payment is due at the time of registration. You may call in with a credit card payment, or mail in a check.

Can students apply for more than one academy?

Definitely, and here’s a bonus. When you sign up your student for more than one academy, receive $50 off. The offer is limited to one student, two academies only. To receive the discount, please call the College of Continuing Education at (916) 278-4433, extension 2.

What forms need to be filled out?

There are three forms* required prior to the start of each academy:

  1. Online registration form
  2. Parent/guardian authorization form
  3. Photo release form  

*Special Considerations:

  • Students in the Law Enforcement Academy need to complete two forms from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department: 1) social media photo release form and 2) field trip/background check form.
  • Students in the Introduction to Welding and Fabrication Academy need to complete a tech shop agreement on safety regulations.

Do you have housing for students coming from outside the Sacramento area?

We do not offer housing for out-of-town students. Many students who come from out-of-town stay with friends or family.

If I need to cancel my registration, do I get my money back?

If your request is received at least two (2) weeks before the first academy meeting, you may transfer the full amount of your paid fees to another academy or receive a full refund, minus a $10 processing fee.
