Instructional Design for eLearning Instructor
After years of classroom teaching and school management, James Lane turned his attention to instructional design, test creation and e-learning course development. He entered the healthcare industry, where he has been working as an instructional designer, new hire trainer and quality manager at Dignity Health.
He joined Sacramento State in 2018 as an instructor in the Instructional Design for eLearning certificate program. He holds a a master’s degree in instructional systems technology from Indiana University.
“My philosophy is that the e-learning tools can only take us so far if we don’t understand the underlying principles of how people learn, both individually and in groups,” he said.
Lane began his career teaching English to international business managers from a variety of industries in San Francisco and Tokyo. He realized quickly that adult learners seek instruction that is relevant to their business needs and professional goals, taking into account their previous knowledge and experiences.
Lane says when he has free time, he relaxes with his teenage children, makes wine and paints portraits in oils.
