Profile

Professor Janet Hanstad has 20 years of experience teaching at the college level and currently teaches biology at Sacramento State. She brings her expertise in biotechnology, environmental science, natural resources, zoology, and anatomy and physiology to the Introduction to Biotechnology Academy.

Hanstad continues her research into fungal diseases in crops and works with farm advisers, growers and industry. She has worked with private, public and nonprofit organizations, including the California Coastal Conservancy and the California Cherry and Pear boards.

She earned her doctorate in plant pathology from UC Davis as well as two master’s degrees, one in business administration from Western Governors University and the other in ecology from Utah State University. Her bachelor’s degree is in biology from the University of Oregon.
