Profile

Jason Hemler packs a lot in his work week as director of Sacramento State’s Paramedic Program and as a fire captain/paramedic in the Sacramento City Fire Department. He also spends a week each summer leading the Fire and Emergency Services Academy. High school students get a first-hand look at what it takes to be a first responder.

Students will tour a fire station, earn their CPR certification and explore the different careers in fire and emergency services.

Hemler began his career as an emergency medical technician. In 1991 he earned his paramedic license and has worked in multiple systems of advanced life support care in California. He earned his master’s degree in emergency management from California State University, Long Beach.
