Ken Kubo
Summer Academies for High School Students Instructor


Professor Ken Kubo makes science come alive for students from middle school all the way through college. He serves as interim dean of Planning, Research & Technology at American River College and teaches biotechnology and microbiology. Professor Kubo also leads the Get Bright with Biotech: The Biology of Glow Summer Academy for High School Students, coordinated by the College of Continuing Education.

Professor Kubo received his bachelor’s degree in medical microbiology at Stanford University and his doctorate in biochemistry at the University of California, San Francisco. After graduate school, he completed postdoctoral research at the Institute of Molecular Biology at the University of Oregon.

Before joining American River College, Professor Kubo served as program director of the BIOTECH Project, a biotechnology outreach program at the University of Arizona for high school teachers and students. As a community college professor, he continues his outreach to high school students in collaboration with the North Valley Biotechnology Center on the American River College campus.

He also works with Sacramento State and UC Davis on biotechnology outreach to middle and high school students.
