Student Success Stories

“I want to thank the CSUS team for providing the Human Resource Management certificate program. I recently started the program and am thrilled about my experience. I completely enjoy the textbook material, listening to the lectures or watching the slide presentations, and viewing the posted videos. The videos are interactive, engaging, and also provide insightful information, which I have already used personally.

The discussion boards are helpful as I read other students’ thoughts, offering opportunities for me to glean from their understanding and personal experiences as well. I appreciate perspectives that are different from my own, and I am thankful that this is a required part of the program. It is also a great alternative to work as a cohort since this program does not provide the in-class experience. It has allowed me to get to know the other students, which I have enjoyed.

The flexibility is vital for my schedule, and I have found it to work well. I have a full-time job, as well as family needs and other commitments. The due dates given to work on my assignments have not only been reasonable, but have also allowed for me to submit them in a timely manner. The instructors provide plenty of time for the required projects and have been easily accessible to answer questions that I have had.

Instructor feedback on submitted work has been thorough and detailed, helping to deepen my understanding and inform my thinking. Additionally, the engagement/office hours have been one of the best parts of the class. It has been a great opportunity to have time for personal interaction with the instructors. They have been very engaging, friendly, kind and knowledgeable. I am excited about this program and highly recommend it to anyone interested in pursuing a greater understanding in the Human Resource Management role.”

“This was my first experience with college level courses in many years. I was very impressed with the quality of Sacramento State’s CCE program. From the research stage where I interacted with Amberly Macias to the quality of the professors, the experience was exceptional.

I went into the program knowing the basics of Human Resources and have completed the program feeling I am a valuable asset in Human Resources to an organization. Each professor has a successful career in Human Resources and was proficient in the topic they taught with real experience. Besides receiving valuable information, the course assignments stretched my abilities. I did my first PowerPoint presentation for one course, and did my first video for a different course. All of the professors were phenomenal and each inspired me in some way.”

“I was referred to the Human Resources Management certificate program when I was only a banker and wanted to find my way into the HR department.  Our HR manager had taken the same program a few years back, and thought it would help me gain up-to-date knowledge of HR laws, initiatives and concepts. I then got a lucky break and was hired as an HR Coordinator while studying at CCE.

The program was more than just a knowledge refresher, as I learned extensively from my fellow participants as they shared experiences and practices in their respective companies.  It helped me see different angles and implementations of the same initiatives by different companies, and I particularly benefited by comparing my company’s practices with them.

Obviously, the instructor’s role in generating those discussions was critical. My knowledge of certain federal labor laws was very limited, but the instructor gave me an overview so I could start learning about them in detail.

Going through the program earned me recognition and knowledge that helped me excel. In the couple of years it took me to complete the certificate, I went through two job promotions within the HR department — first as a HR Associate and then later to HR Generalist. I now support an entire region of US Bank’s In-store Banking division.  I envision being in this position and developing over the next 3-5 years before I move into the HR Manager position.”
