Thank you for agreeing to participate in the Adult Learner 360.  Sacramento State is participating in this important study aimed at improving outcomes for Adult Learners, specifically Latino Adult Learners, a population often overlooked. The Adult Learner 360 is a two-part assessment survey from the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) and Sacramento State has been selected as one of 15 Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) contributing to a national research project to better serve adult students. The 15 participating HSI’s will form a three-year learning community called the CAEL Adult Learner 360 Academy.

Who is conducting this research?

The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), in partnership with Excelencia in Education, launched the three-year project to improve outcomes for the growing population of adult Latinx students by comparing experiences from our university’s full population of adult learners.

How long is the study?

Research begins October, 2018 with a university-wide survey administered on behalf of Sacramento State’s Office of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Planning. The Academy will be a 3-year initiative that will provide tools for HSIs to examine closely how they are serving their adult students, while offering support in implementing new policies and practices to drive better enrollment, persistence, and completion of adult Latino student. Sacramento State’s Office of Strategic Diversity Initiatives and the College of Continuing Education will be partnering in the review and ensuing activities.

Are there any benefits to students?

Sacramento State intends to use the information from the study to improve services and programs for adult students. Depending on the how long you remain enrolled you may experience new or enhanced services that will be piloted in 2019-2020.

Are there any benefits for me?

Once you complete this survey you will be entered to win a $30 Hornet Bookstore Gift Certificate. Student participants are receiving the same incentive. Approximately 8,000 surveys will be distributed to Sacramento State’s adult students. Several winners will be randomly selected from student and institutional participants.

What will my participation involve?

This survey will take about 30 minutes to complete. Your participation will help Sacramento State and CAEL understand your experience serving adult students and ultimately improve our services for adult learners.

Are there any risks to me?

The risk of participating in the survey is no more than everyday life.
