The most prestigious world honor in architecture, the Pritzker
Prize, has been awarded to an outsized number of Japanese
architects. Why might this be so? This interdisciplinary study
abroad program provides students with an exceptional learning
opportunity for understanding how and why Japanese cultural
production remains a strong influence in architectural and design
practice around the globe.
Students will explore Japanese architecture, dating back a
thousand years to award-winning work that was just completed,
through a combination of touring, sketching, reading, writing,
and group projects.
