This immersive study abroad program for nursing students offers hands-on learning to develop cultural humility and a deeper understanding of how culture shapes health. Through direct exposure to international healthcare systems, participants will examine their own cultural beliefs, evaluate global traditions and values around health, and analyze the political, social, and historical influences on healthcare. Students will collaborate with peers to explore health profession roles in another country, returning with new perspectives to inspire their practice and peers while fostering interest in future global learning opportunities.

France (COMS 168)

Spend a week at the La Muse Writer’s Retreat in France studying the writing of an individual theorist, inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Occitanie Mountains. The curriculum will be based on intense rhetorical theory and will be reinforced by their surrounding environment where the French resistance took place.

Italy (Art 4)

Experience art in person in Italy and use the cities of Rome and Florence as your classroom. This nine-day program is designed to make art more accessible for participants and will focus on art of the Italian peninsula from the ancient period to the year 1800. Visits to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Vatican, and Palazzo Medici are some of the many highlights of this program.

London (NURS 193)

This week-long course in London will cover the history and development of nursing and medicine. You will trace the footsteps of Florence Nightingale, mother of modern nursing, through Victorian London. You will also gain insights about nursing in the UK and the National Health Service (NHS) while enjoying the cultural highlights of Britain’s cosmopolitan capital city.

China (CHIN 199)

Join our immersive study abroad program in Nanjing, China, and earn 3 units through CHIN 199: Special Problems. Over two transformative weeks, you’ll engage in content-based Chinese language lessons led by expert instructors at Nanjing University each morning. Afternoons are packed with enriching cultural activities and field trips, exploring the history, arts, cuisine, and vibrant local communities of Nanjing. Plus, a weekend tour to Yangzhou will give you insight into one of China’s historical economic hubs. Don’t miss this chance to align your academic goals with a once-in-a-lifetime cultural adventure!

The most prestigious world honor in architecture, the Pritzker Prize, has been awarded to an outsized number of Japanese architects. Why might this be so? This interdisciplinary study abroad program provides students with an exceptional learning opportunity for understanding how and why Japanese cultural production remains a strong influence in architectural and design practice around the globe.

Students will explore Japanese architecture, dating back a thousand years to award-winning work that was just completed, through a combination of touring, sketching, reading, writing, and group projects.

Through the 2026 summer program at Shinshu University in Japan, you will gain first-hand experience in understanding global food production and distribution processes, fostering a deeper appreciation for diverse agricultural practices and their socio-economic and environmental impacts.

Africa (ENVS 110/ETHN 170)

Join a powerful faculty-led study abroad program in Senegal, where you’ll explore the connections between race, environment, and public health. Visit national museums to learn about Senegal’s rich history and culture, then dive into pressing environmental issues through site visits to heavily polluted areas like the Pink Lake and coastal fishing communities. Gain firsthand insight into how water pollution and deforestation affect local health and livelihoods while working alongside community organizations and local scholars. This immersive experience will expand your global perspective, sharpen your critical thinking, and prepare you to engage with real-world health and environmental challenges across cultures.

Vienna, Austria (EDC 205)

Step into the birthplace of modern counseling! This two-week study abroad course takes you to Vienna, Austria, where you’ll explore the roots of counseling and psychotherapy while gaining hands-on experience through mentorship, process groups, and real-world practice. Along the way, you’ll build your counselor identity, grow cross-cultural connections, and return with fresh global perspectives that will shape your future in the profession.
